Literacy Committee

Norris Middle prides itself on building a culture of reading. One of the most influential clubs at NMS allows student representatives to create literacy-centered events for the community, have input on reading instruction within the school, read to elementary students, and build lifelong connections through the love of the written word. If you are an avid reader or want to become one, the Literacy Committee is for you!

Peer Buddy

Who can join? Any NMS student can apply

Tremont Club

Sixth grade students at Norris Middle School are invited to participate in the Tremont Club and overnight field trip to the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont. In October these students will prepare for the field trip and experience nature in their own backyard by hiking from NMS to the Norris Observation Point. In November they will spend three days and two nights at the Tremont campus in the Smokies. While on this trip, students will reinforce life science concepts learned in the sixth grade science classroom through outdoor lessons like Stream Ecology and Salamander Investigations.

When does it meet? Parent meeting in September, student hike to Observation Point in Norris in October, overnight field trip November 13 – 15, 2024
